Setting Up an iPad (or Tablet) to Take Payments
The working-but-unsupported configuration — verify every deployment end-to-end.
📍 Admin → Account Management → Locations → Eldorado Resort Experiences → Register Setup
ℹ
How to make an iPad (or any tablet) a payment-capable workstation by creating a register for it and attaching the device. This is the procedure used for the Wellness Centre iPad in August 2026.
✋
Agilysys does NOT officially support iPads for payment processing Their recommended hardware is a Windows tablet such as a Lenovo M10 or Microsoft Surface. The Eldorado iPad register works in practice — a live credit-card test was processed on August 12, 2026 — but treat this as a working-but-unsupported configuration: verify each deployment end-to-end and expect no vendor support if it breaks.
📋 Before you start
- Admin permissions in Book4Time.
- The tablet, with a browser signed in to mer1031.na.book4time.com.
- The device/computer name the tablet identifies as (step 1 shows how to read it).
- Management sign-off for a live test charge, and Accounting available to verify it bank-side.
🛠️ The procedure
1 Find the device name. On the tablet that will take payments, this is the name Book4Time detects for the device. Open the Register Setup page from the tablet itself — the page header shows "Computer Name:" for whatever device is currently browsing. (Eldorado's existing iPad register is attached to device name ER-ROOMGR01-M.)
2 Create the register: on a computer with admin access, go to Admin → Account Management → expand Locations → click "Eldorado Resort Experiences" → Register Setup tab → click Add.
3 Fill in the register form: Register ID (a clear name, e.g. "iPad Spa 2") · Code — unique two-digit code (the existing iPad uses 04; note FD Reg 1 and Norberto currently both use 01, so pick an unused code) · Receipt Setting (Regular) · Opening Bal (0.00 unless it will hold a cash float) · Computer Name — the exact device name from step 1 · Printer Mode (Local) · Printer Type if a receipt printer is attached (the existing registers use Epson TM H6000III), plus COM port / label printer settings only if applicable · Revenue Center if used. Click Save.
4 Dismiss (or note) the QZ Tray prompt. The page recommends QZ Tray for thermal receipt/label printing — QZ Tray is a desktop utility and does not run on iPadOS. An iPad register therefore cannot print thermal receipts locally: plan to email receipts, or skip receipt printing on this register.
5 Connect the tablet: on the iPad, open Front desk → Point-of-sale. The page will say "You are currently not attached to a register" — pick the new register from the drop-down and tap Continue.
6 Confirm attachment: back on Register Setup, the register row should now show the device under Computer Name, and the page header on the iPad should show the register as attached.
7 Verify tenders: on the Tender Setup tab, confirm the payment types the iPad should accept are attached at the location (currently: Visa, MasterCard, Amex, and both room-charge tenders).
8 Run a live test: process a real credit-card transaction on the iPad (the Aug 12 test used a staff member's own card), then have Accounting confirm the transaction settles correctly on the bank side before opening the register to guests.
9 Log the configuration: record the register ID, code, device name, and test date in IT documentation, and note the register is an unsupported configuration per Agilysys.
🔍 Worth knowing
- The register form fields (verified live): Register ID, Code, Receipt Setting, Opening Bal, Computer Name, Printer Mode, Printer Type, Receipt Printer/COM Port, Label Printer, label density/speed/dpi, Revenue Center.
- System Settings → POS Settings → Mobile Checkout Billing Defaults holds a per-location default cash register and operator ID for mobile checkout — currently unset at Eldorado. If tablet checkout becomes standard, set these so mobile transactions bill to the right register.
- Card-present hardware is a separate question: a card reader must integrate with the credit-card gateway (options under Account Management → Interface include Agilysys Pay, Adyen, Book4Time Pay 2.0, Elavon, FreedomPay, Shift4, etc.) — the register record alone does not add a physical reader.
- The existing iPad register: ID "iPad", code 04, device ER-ROOMGR01-M, printer mode Local, Epson TM H6000III.
🔧 Troubleshooting
POS still says "not connected" after attaching The device name in the register record doesn't match what the tablet reports — re-open Register Setup from the tablet and copy the header's Computer Name exactly.
Tempted to reuse an existing register Don't — not the B4T Support register (99), and not another workstation's register. One register per device keeps the tender audit logs meaningful.
Vendor position Keep the formal Agilysys ticket open: their documentation says iPads are unsupported for payments, so get written confirmation before rolling this out beyond the one tested device.
