Guest Wi-Fi Support
Two simple steps fix most of it — but never touch the guest's device.
✅ First steps — walk the guest through these
These solve the large majority of guest Wi-Fi problems. In order — let the guest do the tapping. 1. Make sure they're on the right network Guests often connect to a neighbouring business, a staff network, or an old saved network. Have them select the property's guest Wi-Fi by name — confirm the exact name for them. 2. Complete the sign-in (splash) page Most guest Wi-Fi needs terms accepted or a name/room number entered on a sign-in page after connecting. Connected but "no internet" usually means this page was never finished. 3. Forget the network and reconnect The single most effective fix — it clears a bad or half-finished previous connection. Device-specific steps below. 4. Reboot the device Fully off and back on, then reconnect. A surprising number of "it won't connect" problems clear with a restart. 5. Toggle Wi-Fi off and on Or flip Airplane mode on and off — forces a re-scan and reconnect. 📱 Device-specific steps
Reminder: read these out to the guest and let them tap their own screen. iPhone / iPad (iOS) Forget the network Settings → Wi-Fi → tap the ⓘ next to the network name → Forget This Network → confirm → back to the Wi-Fi list and tap the network to reconnect. Still won't connect? Turn off Private Wi-Fi Address On that same ⓘ screen, turn offPrivate Wi-Fi Address. iPhones use a random address per network by default, which some guest systems don't handle — this often fixes a login that used to work. Then forget and reconnect again. Android phone / tablet Forget the network Settings → Connections → Wi-Fi (or Network & Internet → Wi-Fi) → tap and hold the network name (or the gear icon) → Forget → tap the network again to reconnect. Menus vary slightly by brand. Still won't connect? Check the MAC address setting In that network's settings look for Privacy or MAC address type — change Randomized MAC to Phone MAC / Device MAC, then forget and reconnect. Windows laptop Forget the network Click the Wi-Fi icon (bottom-right) → Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → Manage known networks → click the network → Forget → reconnect from the Wi-Fi icon. Quick alternative Click the Wi-Fi icon, right-click the network name, choose Forget, then reconnect. 🌐 The sign-in page won't appear
Without it, the guest is connected but has no internet. To force it:
🔗 "It connects, but two devices can't see each other"
Casting to a TV, a photo-booth app, a wireless game, phone-to-laptop sharing — these fail on guest Wi-Fi. This is expected behaviour, not a fault. Guest Wi-Fi uses client isolation to keep devices from seeing each other (so guests can't reach each other's devices). It can't be turned off — it protects everyone. The workaround: use a personal phone hotspot for those two devices. The vendor can't change this.
🔍 Confirm it yourself — test in the room on your own device
When a guest reports "the Wi-Fi has no access," testing it yourself confirms whether there's a real problem before you escalate — and gives the vendor concrete information. Two things make the test reliable:
💡 If your own device — fresh, inside the room — also can't get access, you've confirmed a real problem. Tell the vendor the room number and that you reproduced it after forgetting and reconnecting; it saves a lot of back-and-forth.
📞 Call the property's Wi-Fi vendor
Tried the steps and the guest still can't connect — or it looks like an outage or coverage issue (no signal in part of the building, many guests affected)? Contact the vendor directly: 💡 Have your property's full street address ready before you call. The technician asks for the site address to verify coverage and pull up the right system. Property not listed, or unsure which vendor covers you? Contact Argus IT.
🆘 When to involve Argus IT
For a single guest who can't get their own device connected, the steps above (and the vendor, if needed) are the right path — that's not an Argus IT ticket.
