Audio System — Operations & Troubleshooting
Soundtrack.io controls the music. Sonos is only a volume knob. Never touch the rack.
One rule covers almost everything: Soundtrack.io controls the music; Sonos is only for nudging a secondary zone's volume. This system covers Manteo Resort today and is expanding to eventually cover all of Eldorado Resort — the rules below are the same for every area, so if your area isn't named yet, the same principles apply. The full MAX AVT operations guide (with screenshots) is attached below.
Don't touch the amplifiers or Sonos devices
Most of the audio problems we deal with are actually created by well-meaning staff troubleshooting equipment they aren't familiar with — a setting changes, a source switches, a device gets unplugged, and a small issue becomes a big one. If you're not sure, don't experiment. There's no penalty for asking for help — there IS a problem when guesswork makes things worse.
⚡  In a hurry? The 30-second version
  • Music, play/pause, main volume, scheduling → Soundtrack.io.
  • Sonos → ONLY to raise/lower a secondary zone's volume (Ballroom Hallway, Beach Club).
  • Never change Sonos groups, music sources, or Line-In assignments.
  • Never touch anything in the AV rack.
  • The system runs automatically on a schedule — no daily startup or shutdown; leave it running.
  • Can't fix it? Ticket Argus IT first. Can't reach IT: MAX AVT · (250) 859-0606 · info@maxavt.com
✅  What each system is for
Soundtrack.io
Music selection · play/pause · main zone volume · advanced scheduling.
Sonos — ONLY
Ballroom Hallway volume · Beach Club volume · secondary volume adjustments — nothing else. Never to select music, change sources or grouping, or start/stop playback.
🚫  Never change / never touch
In Sonos, do not change: groups · music sources · Line-In assignments · and don't start playback from Sonos.
In the AV rack, do not touch anything — never unplug or power-cycle amplifiers, DSP/audio processors, network switches, power conditioners, or the Sonos and Soundtrack.io hardware.
No Spotify, Apple Music, or SiriusXM through Sonos
All music must run through Soundtrack.io so scheduling and source control stay correct.
🔌  Critical Line-In sources (must stay selected)
For Soundtrack.io to feed each area, the Sonos players must stay on the correct Line-In source:
Lobby + Ballroom Hallway
Line-In (SoundTrack.IO Ballroom)
Pool + Beach Club
Line-In (SoundTrack.IO Pool)
💡 If a Sonos player gets switched off its Line-In source, Soundtrack.io stops feeding that area — the most common cause of "music suddenly stopped." Putting the Line-In source back fixes it. (More areas will be added as the system expands.)
▶️  Normal daily operation
The system runs itself — Soundtrack.io scheduling starts, changes, and stops the music automatically. Nothing to start up or shut down each day. To check on it:
1
Open Soundtrack.io.
2
Confirm your zones show Connected.
3
Confirm the scheduled playlist or station is playing.
4
Adjust a main zone volume in Soundtrack.io if needed.
5
Leave it running.
🔧  Quick troubleshooting
No music playing
Soundtrack.io: zone Connected? Schedule active? Then confirm the correct Sonos Line-In source is still selected (table above).
Lobby fine, Ballroom Hallway too loud
Sonos → lower Ballroom Hallway volume only.
Pool fine, Beach Club too loud
Sonos → lower Beach Club volume only.
Music stopped right after someone changed Sonos
Put Sonos back on the correct Line-In source: SoundTrack.IO Ballroom (Lobby + Hallway) or SoundTrack.IO Pool (Pool + Beach Club).
