Waterfront Ballroom AV — How-To & Troubleshooting
Wall keypads for the basics, the iPad for everything else. Never touch the rack.
You control the ballroom AV two ways: the in-room wall keypads, or the iPad running the AMX TP Control app. The keypads handle the everyday basics; the iPad does everything they do plus volume/gain levels, moving a mic between ballrooms, music, and TV channels. The full manual with screenshots and layout diagrams is attached below.
Never open or touch the AV rack
Amplifiers, processors, and network gear are off-limits. Most ballroom AV problems get worse when unfamiliar gear gets unplugged or switched. Use the keypads and iPad as described; if that doesn't fix it, place a ticket with Argus IT — if IT can't resolve it, IT contacts our AV vendor MAX AVT directly. You don't need to coordinate that.
⚡  In a hurry? The 30-second version
  • Three wall keypads per ballroom: far-left = lighting, middle = video/source (laptop, TV, screen, projector, mics), far-right = A/V Off.
  • iPad app = AMX TP Control. Pick your ballroom on the top bar, then Source Select or the Keypads / Microphone / Video tabs.
  • Laptop: plug into the HDMI wall jack, then press the button for the ballroom you plugged into.
  • Mic volume/gain and moving a mic between rooms → iPad only.
  • TV channels → iPad only (Telus controls page).
  • Done for the day? Press A/V Off (far-right keypad). Leave the rack alone.
🎧  Know your controls
Far-left keypad
Lighting for that ballroom. Each button is a light — press to toggle; press a light's button then the + / buttons at the bottom to dim.
Middle keypad
Video / source — laptop source buttons (Ballroom 1/2/3), TV, Screen, Projector, and Mic 1 / Mic 2.
Far-right keypad
AV control — includes A/V Off, which shuts the whole system down.
The iPad — AMX TP Control
Top bar: pick the ballroom. Source Select: HDMI 1/2/3 (= ballrooms 1, 2, 3) and Telus (TV) — picking a source turns the projector on, lowers the screen, and switches the video. Tabs: Keypads (on-screen copy of the wall keypads), Microphone (mic levels, room Master volume, Sonos music), Video (HDMI/TV volume, screen & projector).
💡 In the attached manual's screenshots, the mute button is labelled "Level" — and that same label shows the current volume/gain and moves as you adjust. "Level" is both the mute button AND the live readout.
💻  Show my laptop on the screen (HDMI)
1
Plug your laptop into the HDMI wall jack (you may see the resolution change).
2
Turn the system on either way: wall keypad — on the middle keypad, press the button for the ballroom you plugged into (e.g. plugged into Ballroom 2's jack but presenting in Ballroom 3? Go to Ballroom 3's keypad and press "Ballroom 2"). Or iPad — pick the ballroom on the top bar, then Source Select → HDMI 1/2/3 matching the jack.
3
To show the same laptop in other ballrooms, repeat at each room's keypad (or switch rooms on the iPad) and select the ballroom you plugged into.
🎤  Set up a microphone
Each ballroom has two mic jacks: the one with an HDMI port beside it is Mic 1; the one without is Mic 2.
1
Plug the supplied microphone into the jack using an XLR cable.
2
On the middle keypad, press Mic 1 or Mic 2. Light on above the label = mic on. Both can be on at once.
💡 Volume/gain, or sending a mic into another ballroom: iPad only. Top bar → pick the ballroom → Microphone tab — every mic for every ballroom, each with volume up/down and mute ("Level").
🔊  Volume, music, and TV
Ballroom overall volume
iPad → ballroom → Microphone tab → the Master control (bottom-right).
Play music
iPad → ballroom → Microphone tab → raise the Sonos control. No sound? The Sonos player probably isn't playing anything or its own volume is down — open the Sonos app on the iPad to choose what plays.
Watch TV (Telus)
Middle keypad → TV button, or iPad → Source Select → Telus. Projector on, screen down, and the iPad lands on the Telus controls page — channel changing is iPad-only.
HDMI or TV volume
iPad → ballroom → Video tab — controls labelled HDMI 1/2/3 and Telus.
Projector and screen
Middle keypad: Screen raises/lowers, Projector on/off (any source button also powers the projector and drops the screen). Or iPad → Video tab.
Turn everything off
Far-right keypad → A/V Off — projector off, screen up, audio off. (Also on the iPad.)
🔧  Quick troubleshooting
My laptop isn't showing
HDMI seated at both ends? On the middle keypad (or iPad), press the button for the ballroom you plugged into — not the room you're standing in. Projector on, screen down?
Wrong room is showing my laptop
The button names the jack, not the room. Go to the correct room's keypad and select that same ballroom.
Mic on but no sound
Light lit above Mic 1/2? Then iPad → Microphone tab: that mic's "Level" not muted or down, and Master volume up.
Music won't play
Raise the Sonos control; still silent, open the Sonos app — the player likely isn't playing.
TV on but can't change channels
Channel control is iPad-only — Telus controls page.
Screen won't drop / projector won't start
Selecting a source should do both automatically; if not, use the Screen and Projector buttons on the middle keypad directly.
Nothing responds / iPad app broken
Ticket Argus IT. Do NOT open or adjust the AV rack.
